Editor allows the driver to be tailored to individual printers. The editor uses an existing
@LASERMATRIX
driver as a base, then prompts the user for printer information which it then uses to create a new printer driver.
The editor assumes the user has an in-depth knowledge of the new printer and how to control it with ASCII escape code sequences. The editor prompts the user for all information necessary.
The following information is required:
- The width of the printed page in 8-bit cards.
- The height of the page in cards.
- The ratio of the highest graphics printing density
to a normal low density.
- An escape code sequence to initialize the printer.
- An sequence to instruct the printer to receive bit-
mapped graphics information at the selected high
density.
- A sequence to send the printer a very small line-
feed, used to fill in between dots.
If ASCII printing (in the printer's internal fonts) is desired, then more information us needed:
- An escape code sequence for ASCII initialization.
- A sequence for Near-Letter-Quality (NLQ) mode
initialization, if available.
The editor places this information in the proper tables in the
driver and saves the new file to the disk. Some experimentation with values may be necessary to fine-tune the driver.
